Ford is one of the first brands to implement OBD2 and EOBD in their vehicles. This is because Ford is originally an American car brand, OBD2 was introduced earlier in America than in Europe. However, it is not a guarantee that your Ford supports OBD2, so always check the function list of the Ford interface or Ford diagnostic equipment first.

Read error codes from your Ford

In addition to the standard OBD2 protocol, Ford also uses its own protocol, which in turn are connected to Ford's CAN-Bus. These protocols can often not be diagnosed with universal scan tools, for this you can use specialized interfaces, such as FoCom, or diagnostic equipment from iCarsoft, such as the FD V1.0 with its Full System Scan.

Common Ford Focus problems

The Ford Focus often has problems with the red malfunction light coming on in the first minutes of driving, this should be paid particular attention to when purchasing. It is then wise to read error codes from the Focus before purchasing to see whether this malfunction (s) have a serious cause.

The Focus also often has problems with the throttle valve and/or the throttle valve position sensor, often it is simply that it is dirty, but it is also possible that the sensor is defective. Therefore, read the engine management system when idling poorly!

The gearbox sensor of the Ford Focus also regularly gives problems, this should be solved in time. You may have less power at your disposal as a result, or even the radio and/or instrument panel will fail.
