Volvo diagnostics
Your Volvo is equipped with many electronic systems. Malfunctions can occur in the systems, for whatever reason. A malfunction leads to an error code in an electronic system of the car. This will illuminate a malfunction indicator light on your dashboard. To find out why the warning light is on, the Volvo must be checked with a OBD2 code reader. You can read error codes from your Volvo yourself with the right diagnostic equipment. We can advise you on this. On this page you will find all suitable OBD devices for your Volvo.
Buy a Volvo OBD2 code reader; what kind of OBD device do you need?
A distinction can be made between OBD readers for older cars with OBD1 and new cars with OBD2. For Volvos with OBD1, Volvo still used their own OBD1 protocol. To read error codes from a Volvo with OBD1, you need diagnostic equipment that can handle this OBD1 protocol. You will then end up with brand-specific Volvo equipment, such as the iCarsoft VOL V1.0. With such OBD1 reading equipment it is possible to read different systems in older Volvos.
If you own a Volvo with OBD2, it is possible to connect a universal OBD2 scan tool. A universal OBD2 tool can only read error codes from the engine of the Volvo. The choice of universal OBD2 equipment is very large.
Volvo ABS and airbag system diagnostics
If you have an ABS malfunction or an airbag malfunction in your Volvo, you would like to know exactly where the problem comes from. Of course you will need a diagnostic device that can access these systems. Accessing these systems is not possible with a normal OBD2 device. In the filter on the left side of the website you can click on the options that a device should have, such as the possibility to read error codes from ABS or airbag systems. The correct equipment will then be shown to you automatically.
