OBD Scanner
An OBD scanner is indispensable for every hobbyist and mechanic. Most of the OBD scanners work with all OBD2 cars from 1996 to present. A OBD scanner, such as those from Autel or iCarsoft, reads both generic and manufacturer-specific error codes, frozen data (freeze frame) and also live data can be viewed. Using a standalone OBD scanner you can quickly and easily make a good diagnosis. It is also possible with MOT suitable equipment to perform the mandatory readiness test.
OBD2 Code scanner capabilities
Many Autel OBD2 scanners are universal, so not for 1 car brand specific. You therefore do not have to purchase a separate OBD error code scanner for each car brand! You can readdifferent modules of a car with our scanners. You buy an Autel at Carvitas! Are you still looking for a reader that is for 1 car brand specific and has been developed specifically for a certain brand? Then take a look at our extensive iCarsoft or Foxwell range. Buying an iCarsoft provides many benefits!
Differences between error code readers
There are two types of OBD error code readers in our range, namely OBD1 error code readers and OBD2 error code readers. The OBD1 reading devices, also known as brand-specific reading devices, can read older cars. This concerns petrol cars older than 2001 and diesel cars older than 2004.
The OBD1 equipment can communicate with the engine and also with other existing systems of the older cars, unlike universal OBD2 equipment. The iCarsoft brand is known for its extensive and affordable brand-specific OBD equipment. The great thing is that the iCarsoft equipment can read both older and new cars of a certain brand.
Of course, our professional diagnostic equipment can read both OBD1 and OBD2 cars.
Universal fault code readers, suitable for OBD2 cars
The OBD2 standard, which was introduced in Europe in 2001 for petrol cars and from year 2004 for diesel cars, ensures that every car from those years of construction can be read with a universal OBD2 error code reader. In this case we are talking about reading out the engine management of the car.
Universal OBD code reader equipment is available in many different shapes and sizes, in different price ranges. As a rule, the following applies: the more possibilities the OBD2 reader has, the higher the price of the OBD2 reader.
